As I mentioned serveral years ago it is always good to keep the firmware on your devices up to date. This probably is even more important in today’s security climate than when it I said it in 2010. This is a “story” about troubles I had updating a very important device the router on my home network. One of the reasons I am documenting is that maybe it will help other people having the same issue updating the device.

I LOVE the EdgeRouter X. It has many (most) of the features that you find on a commercial router, but it is affordable enough for a residence. It is also small enough that you can put it almost anywhere; mine is sitting on a shelf in the basement next to the cable modem and a couple of bottles of wine. It also meets one of my key criteria which is being seperate from the cable modem and the Wireless access point (seperation of concerns).
